A Visit with the Nutritional Doctor

Tuesday morning, Oct. 26, I had an appointment with the nutritional doctor in our area. I had some questions for him, also was wondering if my vitamins were doing me any good.

The stress levels have been VERY high lately so I thought it would be good if he could check the vitamins I was taking to see if I was getting any good (or harm) from them.

I think he discovered the problem immediately. Some of my supplements were artificial and not natural, so they were not doing me any good.  The supplements he suggested are all natural, in fact, I must test my blood regularly for they will bring my blood glucose down. (High 'bg' caused by stress!)

I have went to him over three years ago and was able to loss weight without too much effort. When I was getting the right vitamin supplements, I would not feel hungry all the time and of course he always told me to stay away from sugar and potatoes! I have been doing fairly well with the potatoes, but with a heritage like ours it is hard.

Flaxseed Oil?

I wonder if I am the only one, but I forget things when life activities take on whirlwind speed around me. Yesterday, I found a note I wrote in a book.

This is what it said:
Mix 2 tsp. of flaxseed oil in a small amount of cottage cheese or other food before each meal. This will...
(1) Create Satiation (feeling of fullness & satisfaction following a meal)...
(2) Decreases Cravings for fatty foods and sweets...
(3) Stokes Metabolic Rate...
(4) Regulates Insulin Levels...
(5) Increases Oxygen Consumption...
It is an Omega 3 oil.

I found this note in a book I was filling out titled "Reflections from a Mother's Heart Your Life Story in Your Own Words" and it asked me to share some helpful home remedies or tips for good health.

I guess I need to reread them again. I started writing in it 1999 and have not finished since life is an on-going story in the making.

News Report

A report last night on the news stated:

The people who lose weight and keep it off are the ones who record their weight online!

Keep It FUN!

Our weight loss journey should be fun!

It is fun when a too tight outfit becomes baggy

It is fun when we can walk without wheezing.

It is fun when we have the energy to keep up with (or even wear out) people much younger than we are

It is fun when we are able to achieve goals we never thought possible.

You can do it,  keep this fun dear buddies and you will go far!!!

Missed You

Boy, you don't realize how much you miss the encouragement of WLB until you have been away!

I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate each one of you.

The way buddies deal with weight loss through traveling, and just the day to day activities that come into their lives. Being here can help each one of us who are wanting to be healthier through weight loss.

But we only get the encouragement when we log on!

Facing Difficulties

"When you feel your life's too hard, just go have a talk with God" - Stevie Wonder

Sometimes it feels as if a rug has been pulled out beneath us, others feel like a hard punch in the stomach. Difficult times come to all of us. If we breathe we are bound to have difficult days in our lives.

Personal:

Recently our family has felt like we have been punched in the stomach. On Tuesday, my mother who lives alone was told she has, possibly stage 4, malignant melanoma.  A lady in her 70's who never sunbathed or used a tanning bed. It just didn't make sense, until the surgeon pointed out some of her RA medication is know to be linked with lymphoma.

I have been asking friends to please pray that she may have peace through this trial. I'm am awed how the Lord has answered prayer. My mother is facing this is deadly disease with calm assurance.

Over a month ago, my pastor's wife gave me a book for my birthday. It is written by Elizabeth George, titled Breaking the Worry Habit...Forever.  I am amazed how I was being prepared for this recent news. Am I cured of worry? NO!! But I am confident Who is in control of this situation and I'm so thankful He can give us peace in the storms of life.

I want to thank you my dear buddies who will "lift up one another" in prayer during hard times or those days that just are more of a struggle.

"Replace worry with prayer. How do you do that? You make the decision to pray whenever you catch yourself worrying."  -Elizabeth George

Murphy's Law Type of Day

This is one day I don't want to repeat.

When do others notice?

How long does it take for others to notice that you have lost weight?

Our children have said, it takes about a 30 pound loss when other people noticed their weight loss.

Our son lost 60+ lbs. and our daughter has lost 40+ lbs. I have only lost 33, but I'm so glad those pounds are gone.

I have found that true also, that is when people asked if I'm okay. They are wondering if I am losing because I'm sick. No, I have been really working on this and finally seeing progress. Yippee <smile>

I want to learn how to make alterations on some of my favorite clothes so they will fit better, now!

Baby-steps or Moon Walk

My theme is to keep "baby-stepping" toward our goal. Sometimes though it seems more like the dance the "moon walk."

For the past year I seem to take one step forward and then several back,   but I have been creeping toward the goal through mini-goals.

From now on I want to take advise from my Weight Loss Buddy, IBLostToo.  She tells us to do the "Snoopy Dance." I think that will burn more calories!!!

Worry

Taking care of a parent is a difficult task but not impossible. Many people, nowdays, are finding themselves part of the "sandwich generation," taking care of their own family and their parents too.  Doing so brings on stresses others may not understand, but it must be left in the hands of the ONE Who is in control of our future.

-------------------------------------------------------------

"Don't borrow trouble from tomorrow."

I don't know where this quote originated, but it is one I used yesterday after taking my mom to her doctor's appointment. (She will have more appointments in the near future.)

It is something all of us need to learn to do. Taking just one step at a time and then crossing our bridges when we get to them! Take care of yourself today and tomorrow will come soon enough. Eat healthy and get the needed exercise for worry can do so much to harm you physically.

(I share these quotes to preach to myself, if you know what I mean? I'm not a strong person, but I do know the One Who is and He will help me through as well as my mom.)

Social Eating

What do you do when you must attend social events that involve eating?

It seems every time Friday, Saturday, and Sunday rolls around temptation comes pouring down upon us.

I thought last month was bad, but now it is celebrations every weekend with the end of the school year! Work hard all week to end up blowing it on the weekend! This is not a very good plan at all.

I have more than the scale to deal with after blowing "my plan" I must deal with the blood glucose meter too!

Persistence

"It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop." Confucius
------------------------
How many times do we each need to be reminded of this?

When we see no progress then human nature is to stop and give up, don't do it friend!

You can be victorious in this battle!!

NEVER GIVE UP

Here is a quote for motivation. It can be used for healthier lifestyle and weight loss too!

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." Thomas Edison

Edison had filed 1093 patents by the end of his life. While improving the incandescent light bulb Edison tested more than 6,000 types of plant materials along with every other filament he could think of, including tungsten, the most common component of modern filaments. Eventually, he tried a carbonized cotton thread, which burned for 15 hours.

How many times are we closer to success than we think and give up? Never give up!!

May you have a great and successful weekend, plan for it!

Our Weight Loss Journey

Here is a question/challenge:

In your opinion, what is the most difficult part of a journey?

Each part has its challenges and rewards

 (a.) the beginning

(b.) the middle

 (c.) close to the finish

Courage

I have been trying to send this as a post.  I'm always knocked off the site every time I post.
But I think it is a worthwhile post.

When the world says, “Give up,”
Hope whispers, “Try it one more time.”

A while back I had a post titled, "Weight Loss Isn't for Wimps." When we get discouraged, we need to try again! Don't allow the enemy of discouragement have the victory!

Did you know?

You can chart out your own 3K or 5K in your own neighborhood?

Just go to this website and you can measure the distance on your own neighborhood map. Zoom into your area of the map and use the markers to chart out the distance.

Thank you for sharing

Thank you everyone who has shared their "Aha" Moment.

I know I need to look back on my own "aha" moment to keep me motivated! What is an aha moment?

It's a moment of clarity, a defining moment where you gain real wisdom - wisdom you can use to change your life.

LOST

Have you ever been so lost you never thought you would get back on track or find a familiar road?

That happened to me yesterday. I was on a detour in BLINDING rain and I WAS LOST!

We sometimes feel that way on this weight loss journey. Thankfully for prayer, cell phones and a daughter that could talk me back on the right path using her computer.

That is what WLB does for us helps and encourages us on the correct path.

My "AHA" Moment

I had an 'aha' moment shortly after joining Weight Loss Buddy.

I finally realized that even if others can eat junk foods, foods high in the (bad) fats and carbs and drink coffee and colas, I just cannot do it. My health and my body do not tolerate it! So my 'aha' moment was when I came to the conclusion, "Others may, I cannot!!!"

I'm finding it is not so bad to think that way, so when I do eat the "wrong" foods I do it in moderation, filling up on vegetables and salad before I sample the pizza. I swap out a potato for a green vegetable at the restraunt. When I can keep my little motto of "Others may, I cannot," I make better food choices that are healthier for me.

Water and weight loss

You hear this over and over again, that drinking enough water daily is important! Not just for your health but for weight loss. I have not been very diligent about drinking enough water daily, chosing coffee, tea, or an occasional soft drink.

However, today I can tell you after drinking 64 oz. of plain water a day I've lost 4.4 pounds in the last 9 days. Never in my life has my metabolism been able to burn off pounds so quickly.

I know of a friend who has lost 24 pounds in 28 days, but if it was me, I would gain them back just as fast as I would take them off.

This challenge has show me, we must have water to lose weight successfully and it is a habit I MUST do daily.

I'm so excited!

Yesterday, I had a doctor's appointment, and their scale verified what mine has been telling me.

I couldn't help myself I was telling my doctor about Weight Loss Buddy and what wonderful help and people are on here. I told him how my youngest children made a New Year's Resolution to lose weight and have kept it. It got me to thinking I really needed to get serious about it, but I needed more help. So I searched online and found this wonderful website.

Well, he really was listening to my chatter, because he came back and asked me what the name of the website was again, because he wants to recommend it to patients. He says he will often refer them to Weight Watchers because the main thing is the support of buddies, but not all his patients can afford it.

May I give a virtual ((HUG)) to all the wonderful people here, and what a blessing you are to me!!

Slow to Learn

Since beginning a 30 day challenge on Monday 5/10 (I chose to drink 64 oz. of water daily) I have lost  -1.6 from my total weight. I have know all along that water is the key, but was neglectful to do it!

Weight loss isn't for wimps!

Stay postive,  don't dwell on the negative!

Don't allow others to discourage you with their negative comments on your weight loss journey!

You can and will be successful!!

People will say negative things to you, perhaps out of jealousy or scorn.

Don't allow them the victory of holding you back!! You are capable of losing the weight you need to lose and keep it off for years. Others have lost weight and kept it off and you can too!

I told one person the only way I will not be able to get the weigh off is if both of my legs are broken, even then I would find a way to lose it, guaranteed!!  For the simple reason I need to lose it and their comment will spur me on to prove them wrong!   Weight loss isn't for wimps!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I wrote this a while back but the battle continues.  People who you may think will be supportive of you are ones who can say the most hurtful things concerning your success at weight loss.  Don't allow them to plant negative thoughts in your mind. Stay postive and KNOW you can do it!

Seven Steps to Life Success

 by (Jillian Michaels~May 2010 Women's Health)

Step #1 DEFINE YOUR GOALS. "You have to know exactly what your're going after before you to after it." Be specific. It shouldn't be "I want to lose weight." It should be "I want to be a size 6." Write it down and post it for inspiration all over your house.

(My note--This is an example our goal doesn't need to be a size, but a goal to be healthier or stronger. You goal is a personal decision, you fill in the blank.) BeccaS

Step #2 BELIEVE IN YOUR ABILITY."A lot of times, people don't truly believe that they can run five miles or they are capable of losing weight," Jillian says. Banish feelings of regret and guilt. Instead, take they energy and redirect it toward a positive transformation.

Step #3 STAY POSITIVE. Jillian cites a recent Nike as in which a woman takes a dreaded physical trait-"I have thunder thighs"- and celebrates it. "The minute you turn around to bash yourself, reverse it and give yourself a complement," she says. Readjusting self-flegellation inspires you to "create experiences that allow you to believe in yourself."

Step #4 IMAGINE YOUR GOAL "Visualization allows you to get comfortable with the possibility of change," Jillian says, "If it's a house you want: What does the house look like? How does it feel to walk through those hallways?"

(My note-- An example of this type of visualization is a goal to live healthier maybe with less medication or able to walk or run a 5K. "I would like to ______!") BeccaS

Step #5 GET EDUCATED. "The reason so many people fail at weight loss is because they don't know what they're doing," she says. Studying up beforehand helps you "make powerful choices that effect change."

Step #6 DON'T FEAR FAILURE. "It is an integral part of success." Jillian says, "It is part of the process and a way to learn and grow wiser."

(My note: Don't get discouraged! When we are discourage we are allowing the enemy to defeat us! Remember step #3 we must stay postive!) BeccaS

Step # 7 GET FEEDBACK. Don't be afraid of receiving constructive criticism--seek it out. Look for someone who's educated in the goal you are trying to achieve.

(My note: When we are willing to hear where we need to change then we will have the tools we need to reach our goal.) BeccaS
