Lack of time-the number one diet killer

Well, at least in my eyes.

I find that when I'm in a rush, it is so hard to be able to grab something healthy and quick. I realized this a long time ago, but it's days like yesterday when that fact really makes my blood boil.

As a reporter, I am constantly running around all around the town I cover, and sometimes to cover events for my co-workers in other towns. Yesterday, though, I think I ran around a little more than usual.

I started out my day with a banana and some oatmeal-a seemingly healthy breakfast I had at home. Then I stopped by DDonuts to get a big coffee, realizing I would get a belly ache if I drank a large coffee without eating more food, so I got a bagel with creamcheese-which isn't very healthy, but it could have been worse.

I got to work at 9:30, just in time to make our weekly staff meeting, and avoided the weekly donuts my boss provides-I felt proud. I left the office at 12:45 to meet Jon for lunch-we got chicken burritos-again, not the healthiest, but I didn't feel too guilty about it. I got back to work at 1:40, then left again at 2:30 to cover an event at the airport. I got home at 3:45 and didn't eat anything. I can't eat for two hours before going to the gym or else I get all cramped up.

By 4:30 I was already feeling pretty worn out, but Thursday is one of those spin classes I was talking about how I loved in my last post, so I pushed myself to go to the gym. I did a 45-minute spin class, then left the gym craving sorbet (a weird dinner option, right?) So I got some peach sorbet in one of those little containers that the Ben and Jerry's ice cream comes in and ate THE WHOLE THING before night's end! By the time I was done eating my sorbet, I had a half hour to shower before I had to go to a Town Board meeting. That started at 7 and ended at about 9:30. By the time I got home, I was starving again...and ate two hot dogs! I don't even like hot dogs that much!

The point of the story is this, these are the things I would not have eaten if I weren't n a rush:

-the bagel in the morning
-the entire container of sorbet, which I think I just wanted because I saw a commercial for it at the gym
-the two hot dogs.

If I had time, I could have made myself a full breakfast and not needed the bagel to balance out the coffee. After the gym, I could have cooked myself a real dinner instead of eating sorbet, and later eating two hot dogs.

But, I guess this is the career I have right now, though I don't think that should be an excuse. Does anyone have any advice for how to eat right when time is tight?

My advice would be to include snacks in between. I love the 100 calorie packs and you can also get carb smart protein bars which fill you up.

As for meals, I have a hard time with breakfast too. I tend to get whole wheat pancakes or waffles and sugar free syrup and eat it while I do my make up and hair. I've definitely learned to multi-task since my whole "lifestyle change"
