The Undimpled Truth

A few days ago, I posted this link on Twitter and maybe Facebook too:

Essentially, it's a New York Times article saying that doctors are not now or even close to a cure for cellulite.

Many people don't know much about cellulite. Many people think you can only have cellulite if you are overweight.

The truth is, anyone can have cellulite-men and women, fat people and skinny people. Anyone.

The sad truth is that cellulite doesn't affect everyone equal. Typically, it is more common for women and even more common for overweight women. But hey, there is a chance that when you're out on the beach and gawking at the skinny girls and how jealous you are of them, you'll see a skinny gal stroll across the beach with some serious dimples in her thighs ;)

I know it comforted me to know that skinny girls can get cellulite. To some degree, cellulite has affected me personally since I was in high school. I don't think I ever, even in my smallest days, was eager to show off my legs.

This article was interesting to me because it talks about what, exactly, cellulite is, which explains a little more why the creamy "cures" we see on the market don't really work. Cellulite occurs when fat deposits build up underneath your skin in an uneven way, leaving pockets and a dimple-like appearance. It also has to do with the connective tissue under your skin.

By this logic, it would be a stretch to say that if you rub a little cream on your legs, your dimples will disappear, eh?

I came upon this article because I, myself, was attempting to search for the most permanent and effective cellulite solution (three weeks until I bring my booty to the beach-I want it to be as un-dimpled as can be). My resuits were incredibly disappointing.

According to this article, there is NO cure for cellulite-only temporary "bandaid" solutions. One of these temp solutions are the different creams, of which I wish I could tell you which is the best one. On a few different Web sites I saw the brand Revitol hyped up, though I could not buy it in a store, which freaked me out a little. The one I bought was from Sephora and is called "Fat Girl Slim." You're supposed to use it twice a day and massage it into your skin for 20 to 30 seconds. This is only day two for me, so I'll let you know how it is by day 28-at which point I am supposed to see noticeable results.

Another temp solution is a massage. According to some doctors, massaging the dimpled areas will cause the fat deposits to sort of even out. My theory is that if I use the cream with a hard-knuckle-y massage, my results will come sooner? Maybe? Some of the massages touted for helping with cellulite apparently use lasers as well. Personally, I don't know if I'd want to invest the money in laser massages considering they are not a permanent solution.

Whatever you do to cure your cellulite, I hope it works out for you. Oh, and have a Happy 4th of July!!!
