So, for those of you who were following my blogs a while ago about my pooch and her overweight “muffin top” as the vet called it, I decided I would update you on her progress.
For those of you who don’t know the story, my Puggle, Izzy, was declared overweight several months ago by her vet. She was 27 lbs. and the vet said she should have been closer to 24 or 25 since she’s a fairly small dog.
Let me tell you, dogs have a much easier time losing weight (in my opinion) because they have someone measuring out their food for them, deciding when they eat and when they don’t, and as for exercise, I guess they’re at the discretion of their owners, but there is a benefit for the owners too when the dog gets walked.
Long story short, Izzy was put on prescription dog food that literally burns the calories in her little Puggle body all day long. She was also prescribed monthly weigh-ins.
At her first weigh in, the vet was not that impressed with her progress. She had lost a pound, but the vet had wanted to see a little bit more progress.
But after Izzy’s second weigh in this week, the vet said she was almost there after losing a pound in a half in one month! I guess that’s big progress for a dog.
After looking at her, the vet said she only has about one more pound to go until she’s perfect weight. I thought she was beautiful even when she was overweight, but I guess that means that I was a huge part of the problem.
Ah, if only I could eat her food and lose weight the same way she did.
