Fitness Shoes: Fluke or For Real?

A while ago, before they were on shelves everywhere and billboards and magazine ads, I blogged about Sketchers Shape-Ups-a moon-shoe looking sneaker that apparently helps people lose weight.

I doubted their ability to do so then, and I still do now.

Now, I haven't done extensive research on whether Shape-Ups actually help people lose weight. But apparently someone else has.

First, I guess there are all different kinds of these shoes in all different brands. They all basically preach the same purpose-to tone your bottom, increase your balance and help your posture.

Well, according to this article on MSN.com, the shoes actually can help you do all of the above-BUT you have to be careful because this type of footwear could easily cause a strain.

What I'm wondering is, do any of you use these types of sneakers? Do they work for you? Why or why not?

Biggest Loser Recap: Season 9 Episode 3

Spoiler Alert: If you read to the end of this post, you will know who went home on last night’s episode of the Biggest Loser.

WOW. Tonight’s episode was explosive!

(I don’t think I’ve ever used the word explosive in my life, and I’m not really sure it fits there).

The fight between Melissa and Jillian and Bob, Koli and Sam vs. Michael. The heat was on last night, and it looks like next week is going to be pretty firey as well when Lance confronts Jillian about calling his wife a liar on national television.

I missed the first 20 ish minutes of the show (as I’ve griped before, I can barely handle the two-hour long episode). But it appears that Melissa was a naughty girl (was she? Someone let me know!)

I don’t know if she ate too much, or unhealthy food, or slacked in her exercises when no one was looking, but losing only one pound, after not losing an impressive amount of weight last week really set Jillian and Bob over the edge, to the point where an all-out verbal brawl ensued when she chalked up her miniscule weight loss to-well, she didn’t really explain why-and they commented that she had made remarks about eating a cheeseburger.

Like I said, I missed the first few minutes, so I don’t know if she actually did eat a cheeseburger and if someone could fill me in on that, it would be great. What I do wonder is how it would even be possible to eat unhealthy in that house since I thought they regulate what they are eating and how much so that the show can help them lose weight, right?

I can’t wait to see how this unfolds next week though! And by “this” I mean the conflict between Bob, Jillian, Melissa and Lance.

I was 100 percent unimpressed by the Ribbon Challenge. 1.) What does this have to do with weight loss. 2.) It was completely obvious that the “students” would be unraveling what their own teammate did. 3.) It was boring to watch.

I look forward to physically challenging challenges on this show-not contestants wearing blindfolds and unraveling ribbon. Sorry if I’m being harsh-but really-a waste of 20 minutes of my life to watch this challenge.

Let’s skip ahead to LCW (last chance workout). Michael was making some jokes in the gym that upset some of the other contestants. It appeared as if he wasn’t willing to work as hard as everyone else, and frankly, as the heaviest contestant this season and on the show ever, he needs to be willing to work hard.

I did not really like that Koli and Sam called him out at the actual weigh in on this though. To me, it seemed staged for tv. I think it would have been more appropriate if they called him out either right when it was happening or immediately after.

They definitely did make him sweat by thinking he was going home though after this. Other contestants were concerned that Michael is not taking his weight loss seriously, so they stopped taking him serious.

But at the request of his mother, the contestants sent Maria home and gave her son another chance at life and weight loss on the ranch.
My favorite players are Miggy and Darrell now-I think they both really want it and are working their hardest to get there. I really think Darrell and his daughter are the cutest team on the show.
So those are my thoughts for this week-what are YOURS?

And just because I’ve been saying this ALL ALONG and simply cannot let it go, I found this article where an ex-Biggest Loser contestant blasts this season for its first episode in which the contestants lost an “unrealistic” amount of weight:
