Can you lose weight if you're not motivated?
The short answer is no. The longer answer is that you can't lose weight if you're not motivated by a reason for wanting to lose the weight.
But it doesn't stop there. There are two types of motivation-autonomous and controlled. Autonomous naturally kicks in to make us do certain things, and controlled motivation is that which we use to make ourselves do certain things.
Researchers have found that those with autonomous motivation four weeks after a new diet regime are more likely to stick to their weight loss plan. The more motivated a person feels after the four weeks, the more likely they are to continue working at losing the weight.
If I weren't motivated (the days that I am) I probably wouldn't make it off the couch very often. But somehow, I do get motivated, I make it off the couch and I make it to the gym if I'm lucky.
What motivates me? Wanting to truly feel and look the best that I can be. What motivates YOU?
