Low Fat or Low Carb?

The day I started paying attention to my weight was the day I started hearing how bad carbs are for weight loss.

We're constantly told that if we cut our carb intake, we will inevitably lose weight. AND it's actually true. Your body takes a longer time to burn carbs than protein.

Some try eliminating carbs altogether, however, and fail at weight loss.

Another fundamental diet practice is to go on a low-fat diet, where you consume less fatty foods, in hopes that you are eating less that needs to be burned. This also seems to make sense, although some foods high in fat (like avocados) are actually good for you.

So which works better? Low fat or low carbs?

According to a new study, low-carb diets yielded more successful results when it came to weight loss in obese study participants.

The study, which was actually funded by Jenny Craig, examined 45 obese women from ages 18-65 over a 12-week period. These women had varying levels of insulin resistance and on the low-carb diet, lost an average of 3.4 lbs. more than those who took part in a low-fat diet.

Both groups lost weight however, and neither actually eliminated the element they were eating "lower" of-just reduced the amount they were consuming.

What do YOU think? What has yielded better results for YOU-reducing carbs or reducing fat?
