Is There a Best Way to Track Calories?

Many of us track our calories and use that tracking as a way to gauge if we are consuming less than we are burning. Calorie counting is arguably one of the most important variables in weight loss itself (well, counting fewer calories...after consuming fewer calories than in your previous lifestyle).

But what is the best way to track your calories, and is there one way that's better than another?

I've always had a hard time tracking calories, mostly because I've never stuck to one system. I went out once and bought a little notebook that I was going to carry around with me in my purse and specifically use it only to record the calories that I ate each day, in each item of each meal.

It did work for a little while, but then I lost that notebook and for some reason didn't think I should go out and get a new one. So everything just stopped. Then, I started using an Internet program to record my calories. That didn't last long either, however, because the time it took to log on to the site was too much to do so frequently throughout the day.

Recently, I've blogged about an app called "Loose It!" for the iPhone which I personally know someone who believes the app is helping them. But, I don't have an iPhone.

I do try and keep a mental log of the calories I'm eating in each meal and try and put that in perspective of my whole day. But, by the end of the day I can barely remember.

What is the best way to track calories? What do you guys do?
