Diet Soda Can Make You Gain Weight!?

I'm pretty addicted to diet soda. I used to be a heavy drinker of regular, and then when I first started my weight loss journey, I quit regular soda and lost 10 lbs. just from switching to diet.

It has gotten to the point, though, where I'm drinking diet soda sometimes with three meals a day (sometimes the bubbles wake me up a little bit in the morning), and I was left questioning if diet soda was helping or hurting my weight loss efforts.

What I found, after looking at a few different articles, is that many believe that diet soda can work against weight loss. The rationale, however, is somewhat strange.

Apparently, when we consume a great amount of diet soda, we eat other fattening food because we think it's okay since we are drinking diet. But I don't really buy this because we are still consuming zero calories when we drink diet soda.

I haven't noticed whether I eat more unhealthy when I drink diet soda, but I do feel an urge to continue to keep drinking more soda. Still, I don't understand how that would make me gain weight.

Another theory is that people who can't live without soda have a sweet tooth that is set off by the soda and that once the person drinks to soda, even diet, they are not completely satisfied and so they eat something else sweet-typically unhealthy

To curb the appetite for naughty food that comes with drinking diet soda, many sources suggest only drinking soda after drinking several glasses of water.

What do YOU think? Does drinking diet soda typically make you want to eat unhealthy foods?
