Dr Oz 5 Ways in 5 Days to Supercharge Your Body

Dr Oz does it again by coming up with 5 ways to supercharge your body.  It's an easy to follow 5 day program that starts with Astragalus.  Astragalus is a root that has historically has been used in Chinese medicine.   It contains a chemical that may slow down the aging process by protecting the breakdown of DNA.  He recommends 200 mg of Astragalus twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.  According to Dr. Oz you should feel a difference right away.  I did a little of my own research on Astragalus and found that it was regarded as an immune stimulant and helpful if taken before you’re sick but not to be taken during the early stages of any illness.  Some preliminary research shows this root may also be helpful in treating insomnia.

Day 2 begins with the super food, Brewers' Yeast.  Dr. Oz suggests that you sprinkle 1-2 tablespoons on your food each day.  It's the chromium in the brewers' yeast (a byproduct of beer production) that may help stabilize blood sugar levels.  By stabilizing your blood sugar levels you'll avoid the peeks and lows that drain your energy.  Not sure what to sprinkle it on?  Popcorn, salad and cereal are a few suggestions.

When we digest our foods we should be getting energy from them.  As we age our bodies aren't digesting as well as they once did which means our bodies require more energy to accomplish the same process.  This is probably why Grandpa falls asleep after the meal and the kids are running around the back yard.   To ward of the after meal fatigue the good Dr. suggests we drink a glass of papaya juice.  The enzyme contained in the juice promotes healthy digestion.  If that's something you think may work for you be sure to figure those extra calories into your meal, 1 cup of Papaya Nectar is 143 calories.

On Day 4 when you feel sluggish between meals reach for 1-2 large Brazil Nuts each day.  They are the highest food source of selenium that I could find.  Selenium super charges your thyroid and plays an important role in energy metabolism.

The last day of the program is about HGH (Human Growth Hormone).  HGH is produced naturally in our own bodies and as the name says it's known to fuel childhood growth.   Production of HGH naturally declines as we age.   There are 3 ways you can increase production of HGH naturally within our bodies.

1. Strength Training

2. Deep Sleep.  In order to promote deep sleep you should try to make it a habit of getting 7-8 hours of sleep.  It's suggested you don't exercise 2 hours before bed and you don't eat 90 minutes before bed.  Another tip is to cut out any afternoon caffeine.

3. Amino Acids.  The best way is to get the amino acids you need is to eat quality protein from sources such as eggs, poultry, fish and meat, plus beans, nuts and seeds.  If you aren't getting the proper amount of protein you may look into supplementing.

The four amino acids to look for are:

Glycine
Ornithinie
Arginine
Lysine

It was an interesting episode and you can find the complete article summarizing this section of the show here.  I really like that eating well and exercise are always Dr. Oz's first recommendations.
