female, 60 Years old
Looking for : Diet, Activity, Support, Fitness Buddies
About me : I live out on the boonies, not much of a support system living so far from "civilization". I now weight 215 pounds and would like to weigh 156. That's what I weighed for 25 years. I have fibromyalgia and the meds make it too easy to over eat!
Who I hope to meet : I am looking for a diet buddy to check in with on a regular basis to encourage each other. I can't seem to stay motivated even though I know that To take good care of myself I have to eat healthy!
Diet : The 17 Day Diet Dr. Mareno, The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution Dr. Phil
Exercise : I love to hike, kayak and swim. My dog is my best motivation she is always ready for a walk in the woods. I don't have a gym membership anymore so I want to work on creating an at home "gym". I loved Pilates and Yoga classes at the gym, I need to find one DVDs.
Some one asked if I am on a stationary bike and the answer is yes and no. It is the bike I ride on the rails to trails in our area and in the state park. But it is on a stationary trainer. This works so much better than an "exercise" bike because when I bought the bike I did a thourough job fitting it to me! Bike shorts may be a good idea for a little extra padding! I will only be able to get in 45 minutes this morning hopefully I can find time to get back to it later today. My company just started a wednesday fitness program. I work online and I think this is an excellent thing for them to offer! They are encouraging us to get off our butts on company time. But I have office hours scheduled at that time and usually meet with students so I cannot take advantage of it. If no one shows up for office hours I will at least log into the webinar on a second screen and see what it is like. Well controlled healthy eating yesterday and today should also be good ( as long as I stick to my plan).
Getting off your butt on company time? Sounds like a great perk! Hope your schedule will change soon so you can take advantage of it.
55 minutes so far while I am answering email and webmail. I pretty much got caught up yesterday, not a lot of forward progress though. I rode for 1hr and 45 minutes before my butt just could not take any more! I have a good seat but it was enough. I had hoped to get back on later in the day but it never happened. My hubby who is usually so good about not buying junk, brough home mini chocolate covered donuts, opened them and after him eating a few left them on the counter. When I came down for a cup of coffee I ate one. Then started for another but I stopped. I put 4 into a pretty little dish and took them and my coffee back up to my desk. They are not even very good, the chocolate is very waxy. But I knew I would eat more or feel "deprived" if I totally denigned myself. The rest of the day was good!
I used to love riding about 4 years ago. My fiancé and I would ride together on weekends and I would usually ride about an hour before work most days. Now I don't have a place that's easy to ride. It seems like you really do a lot outdoors.
1 hrs 45 mins is still a really good ride. Sometimes we all have to satisfy that thing we are craving and then we can let it go for awhile again.
Good job on getting in that riding. Stationary bike? I know it is hard to avoid temptations, but one thing I stop and try to ask myself is is this worth it. LIke if I am really going to have something, will it taste really good? I agree that the donuts are waxy-- I know what y ou mean. Glad the rest of the day went well. :)
Riding a long time can really make your butt hurt, you may want to consider padded shorts. I have so been there with the donuts, I am glad you was able to keep it to just what you had.
I know what you mean about feeling deprived leading to more overeating. Isn't funny (not funny) how often something that looks so good in our minds ends up not tasting that great. Now if only we could stop with just one of the not-great-food b/c the taste just isn't worth it. Good job on the biking!
I am riding! And of course working too. I had a lot to catch up on (emails), webmail, etc. after beng gone for 2 days and having a couple of "fuzzy" days before that when I was not a productive as usually. I am sweating and just opened the window for a little cool air. It is almost 50, which if you are from the north is a heat wave! It is so funny the harder I work the faster I ride. Going for 2 hours this morning then I will have to make several recordings and phone calls. But I can't do much until 9am PST about phone calls. I have not formally exeercised over the last 5 days and it does feel good to be back at it. Food was good with the exception of the Chineese and wine. At the funeral luncheon they offered a nice salad with chicken, spinach, pecans and dried cherries. I sent my hubby out with a grocery list this morning we are out of my main staples, apples, berries, cottage cheese, lettuce, spinach, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes. I am so glad he likes to do the shopping. I hope everyone had a great weekend!
LOL! My husband likes to shop too. Only he comes home with pastries, cookies, and lots of snacks no one should be eating. He also finds "sales" which believe me, are no sales! Glad you are back on the bike getting things done!
Gladyou're back on the bike! So glad spring is in the air
The weather was cold and rainy so I didn't stay and go hiking after the funeral. But it was a "good' funeral. So sad to see my parents generation disappear. I had a good visit with cousins I grew up with and shared lots of memories. We learned a little more about each others lives then and now as well as future hopes and dreams. My sister and her husband brought my mom up for the funeral they did not visit or talk with hardly anyone, my sister has very few memories of anything - she has always been very self-centered. 2 of my cousins have wives that are certified teachers but not teaching right now and they were very interested in learning more about teaching online, so we exchanged contact info to talk more. Another cousin invited me to go hiking this spring and I made plans with one who lives not too far away to meet for coffee. I stayed with a friend of mine who has recently gotten divorced, after the viewing I picked up Chineese and a bottle of wine and we had a wonderful visit. It was an amazing time and my aunt would have loved hearing all about it. She always had a smile for everyone and was very social until alzhiemers took over. The only exercise I got was wearing heels for 2 days!
It honestly takes work and courage to put yourself out there, I have relatives that I recently went to a funeral for that I really don’t know and it was uncomfortable at first but it got better. But many people don’t want to put themselves through that. I am glad you had a nice time despite the situation and the weather, I sure you are right about your aunt would have appreciated how it all went. Side note: walking in heels for two days definitely worked your calves.
I can relate to the funeral. I have been to many funerals in my life starting when I was a toddler because my parents always believed in the circle of life, and they both came from large families. Connecting with people is so important. My mother's last cousin died last year and that was a sobering moment. Her side of the family has no one left who stays in touch. In our family, a funeral is more like a family reunion. Your aunt sounds like a lovely person and I'm glad you have such wonderful memories of her. I used to wear heels everyday. Now I can handle about an hour every couple of months!
We should look up how many calories are burned wearing high heels! h aha My condolences for your loss. I'm glad you reconnected with your cousins and friend.
I dragged all day yesterday, probably a combo of the Fibromyalgia ( since I forgot to take my meds) and a wandering mind. It is bright and sunny today and I am feeling good. Lots to do before I leave tomorrow, but I just told my hubby that he and I are going out to breakfast tomorrow before I hit the road. I had to try on clothes for the viewing and funeral since I rarely get dressed in formal clothes. Wow everything fits (if anything its too big). My black dress drapes with out a single bulge. My upper arms are a little saggy but after 60 that is to be expected. Every pair of slacks I tried on fit - even my heels fit better than I remember. Then again I was 45 pounds heavier the last time I wore them.
I am sorry for your loss, and hope you will visit good memories as your mind wanders. I'm glad your clothes fit because overall, that will make you feel more comfortable and help you through the next few days. I can relate the the arms and the shoes. For my favorite pair of shoes I wear with dress slacks, I actually wear 2 layers of socks.
Congrats on the clothes fitting better. Wishing you a safe trip.
That's fantastic that everything fits or feels too big! My condolences on your loss, and hope the trip to the funeral goes smooth
Congrats for all your clothes fitting so well. Again, sorry for your loss. Happy Breakfast and safe travels.
My aunt has passed away after a long struggle with alzheimer's. My uncle passed away this past summer and no one expected her to last long after that since he was her caregiver. My mother is the only one left now of that generation. It must be hard. I will be traveling, and my husband will stay home with the pets. He would go if I asked but it I have decided to stay with a friend in the area then stay the week end if that is what I feel like doing. The weather will still be cold but I may be able to get in a little hiking as long as the rain holds off. I am always so busy that taking a little extra time to unwind will be good. I won't be worrying about food or exercise for a few days - just taking time to relax and let my thoughts wander.
Sorry for the losses and althought it must be difficult, you sound like you have a clear vision of what is coming and how to best handle it. Be gentle with yourself and my thoughts are with you.
So sorry for your losses, may God be with you and find comfort in your memories. Take care and safe travels.
I am so sorry about all your losses! My dad is the only one from his generation too - so sad.
No riding yesterday so my 7 day plan is 1 for 2 since I got in 1.5 hours today. I spend my lunch break mopping in the room where I took out the carpet just to get the dust and dirt down to a managable level. I stll need to pull out the tack strips around the room then vacumme again and mop. Now would be a good time to paint rather than a humid summer day so I plan to have it ready for paint by Friday so I can put on the first thin coat. I got a new phone today which is charging so I can call and activate it. My previous phone was so old that many apps did not work on it. Does any one have any sugestions of apps they have found helpful for diet and exercise, goals or time management?
Good plan to paint now rather than in the summer.
I use S-Health. Enjoy your new phone and good job on exercise from the cleaning.
I just finished pulling out the last of the carpet and pad that was here when we bought the house 17 years ago. What a dirty job! We do not have AC so the windows are always open. We live on a dirt road and It was my youngest sons room for 12 years. We have installed hardwood floors in the rest of the house gradually over the years and I have wanted to do this for a long time. I pulled up a bit of carpet about a month ago and noticed the floor under it looked like porch floor ( gray too). Our house is an old cottage on the lake and was added to gradually since the 1930's usually by inclosing a porch. So the wood in 1/2 the room goes one direction (like it was a sleeping porch) and then the wood goes the opposite direction facing the lake ( looking a the beam in the room it was definitely a porch at one time. But… I love it! It is my yoga room and getting rid of that filthy carpet makes me very happy. I am planning to paint the floor it will look a little funky but someday if I change my mind I can put in ne carpet. Good eating so far today, I think I will pull out some bean soup for dinner, just incase I am too lazy ( or busy doing something else) to make the sitr fry I am planning. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
Your yoga room sounds cozy and welcoming! Glad you got rid of the yucky carpet! (I'm sure pulling out that carpet was a workout too!)
Great progress on your yoga room and good job on your eating.
Our public library has a free yoga class once a week. I have been going for 3 years. The teacher is awesome. She does it for free but takes donations that go to St Judes Childrens Hospital. Although I do yoga nearly every day it is amazing how much more I am able to do during her classes. 6 out of 7 days riding at least 1 hour a day. This is the second week and I am down 3 pounds - those nasty 3 pounds that creeped up on me are gond. Now to just continue with the riding and start walking again once the weather is nicer and I will be all set! Eating has been good all week now we need to make it a permenant change! Riding now - it goes fast when I am busy working on something.
So glad to hear how well you're doing! Feels good to just hear how things are going for you!
Great yoga workout at the library today. If any one knows what the turtle pose is…I did it for the first time ever! My head was on the ground! It has been a busy work day and I still have quite a bit to do today. But we had an early dinner of homemade chili since I was busy with students from 11 to 4:00 today. I hope to get down to the bike and ride for at least an hour today.
Glad to hear you're doing so well :) Yoga at the library - is this some kind of class or something? Sound really fun!
I do yoga but had never heard of the turtle pose - looked it up and WOW! that looks extra difficult! Congrats!
