"You can't help someone up a hill without getting closer to the top yourself "
female, 60 Years old
Looking for : Diet, Activity, Support, Fitness Buddies
About me : I live out on the boonies, not much of a support system living so far from "civilization". I now weight 215 pounds and would like to weigh 156. That's what I weighed for 25 years. I have fibromyalgia and the meds make it too easy to over eat!
Who I hope to meet : I am looking for a diet buddy to check in with on a regular basis to encourage each other. I can't seem to stay motivated even though I know that To take good care of myself I have to eat healthy!
Diet : The 17 Day Diet Dr. Mareno, The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution Dr. Phil
Exercise : I love to hike, kayak and swim. My dog is my best motivation she is always ready for a walk in the woods. I don't have a gym membership anymore so I want to work on creating an at home "gym". I loved Pilates and Yoga classes at the gym, I need to find one DVDs.

Good day yesterday, yoga and a walk. Not as long as I would have liked but it does feel like I am getting back into a routine. Eating was great yesterday too, fruit, a big salad and my hubby cooked a small turkey. Today I am on my bike I will be trying to meet up with a friend on skype on Monday and Wed am at 9 to exercise. The weather has been fantastic - so nice to be out without a coat. I got a lot of yard work done over the weekend, But I didn't uncover my perennials - I don't trust the weather we may get cold, ice and snow again it is just too early for it to stay this way.
I'm glad your schedule allowed you to get in some exercise, especially a walk outside! My walking buddy scoffed at my idea that winter is almost over. She believes we are going to be in for it in March. I kind of hope she's wrong, but I'm not liking how weeds are already forming, and I'm not ready for all that! Skyping for exercise with a friend sounds like a great idea. More fun than me yesterday, scrubbing the floor on my hands and knees while talking to a relative on the phone!
This weather has been unbelievable! glad you had a good day yesterday! You're lucky that your hubby cooks! Mine makes such a mess making even the simplest of dishes that I discourage him from cooking - h aha ha
Tired today - I just read a few posts, good to know that I was not the only one who had some difficulty getting on over the last few days. Once my post got deleted once I haven't even tried. My California assignment has been extended until the end of March, working PST time and tutoring from 6-8pm most days is really difficult - there doesn't seem to be time to exercise or eat right. I have been having dinner at 9pm EST and unwilling to cook at that time. When I am hungry for lunch it is prime time in Cal for students so I can't take a break to make a stir-fry or salad. I have done some pre-cooking/prep and I am eating a lot of soup. I am not over eating but I am not eating as healthy as I was before this assignment.
Sorry you are having a problem adjusting to you schedule and eating, I can relate. Honestly it sounds like you are still doing better than me. You are at least making healthier choices, I can't really say that. You food prep is a good idea keep it up. Hang in there you will be past this in 6 weeks, hopefully, just try you best.
I had a friend who was an airline attendance who flew overseas and back e/o day - and she complained about no time for exercise and eating right. She sat down and drew a chart of 15 min increments and figured out when she would be able to eat during a flight and planned out what she could have at that time - some was prepared by airlines some she brought from home. Then she made up little exercises - whenever she went to the galley she did 10 squats etc. Maybe you will be able to find a 15 min window to do some squats, push ups, etc. Walk or jog in place? Good luck with that - it sounds frustrating.
First, congrats on getting your assignment extended! They must like you! And for that you should feel good. I can "hear" the frustration in your post about all the time changes. This is really messing with your schedule. I think planning is going to be your key. A salad made in the morning or afternoon won't be quite as fresh as just-made but it will work. Veggie and hummus don't require much prep if you buy pre-made hummus. Fruit is always easy. Individual packs of nuts are helpful to me (both in portion control and protein). I hope you will find a way to make this work for the next 6 weeks.
Well I kept the TV with the DVD player but still refuse to spend $10 a month to hook it up to cable. But I did go to the library and pick up 3 movies. I have ridden my bike for 4 hours in the last 3 days! The weekend was mostly sunny which was quite nice. My sons came over and were out ice fishing. Cleaned and filleted a 24" pike. We will have it for dinner tonight.
I have antenna tv - you can now buy an antenna that you hook up directly to the tv - no need to go on the roof - good enough for me. When I visit my dad and I see that NOTHING is on all 1456 of the stations he gets, I wonder why anyone would pay for cable?!?! Hope you have a good day and enjoy the pike!
We only have one TV in our house. We have the most basic cable package possible that will still allow us to watch our sports teams. We volunteer at a library on a weekly basis and we check out videos instead of renting. Anyway, I think watching videos will help keep you on the bike. If you get tired of the same type of videos I recommend BBC detective series. They are different and interesting. Good for you for getting in so much time on the bike.
I have been so down on myself for not getting daily exercise and thinking that it has undone all the hard work it took loose 30 pound this fall. I was up 2 pounds and got them back off in a week and a half. I have maintained the loss since the 1st of December. I should be happy! I made it through the holidays and through a lot of cold grey rainy or snowy days without gaining. I know my weight does not defin who I am. I know that I am healthy at this weight even though I need to loose 30 more pounds to be the weight I was for 30 years. I know that this time of year is hard for most people who live in the north and dealing with shorter days and a lack of sunlight. I could bundle up and go for a walk but… its only 4 degrees outside. I could go to the community pool to swim but… it is open at night and I am working PST time. I could ride my bike but… it is so boring ( the TV did not work out we will have to take it back). I am busy but… I am also full of excuses even though I know exercise will help me sleep better at night and shake off this moodyness. I am just in one of those I don't want to moods.
Don’t be too hard on yourself we all get in these ruts from time to time, even when you are passionate about the exercise you do. Maybe try to find something different to change it up. I am sure you are right about the winter blues effecting you motivation and the fact you are working a lot more. You should be proud of what you have done so far and the fact you took off the few pounds that you gained. With spring coming I have no doubt you will find something to be enthusiastic about when it comes to exercise, in the meantime stick to you healthy eating.
Now that you know what works you know what you have to do. Temporarily letting go of some exercise won't bring all the weight back on but you know, it is a sign that this is a lifestyle change for your body! I know. You didn't want to hear that. Me either. We both are just going to have to accept that our bodies need exercise to maintain our losses and also to get stronger as we age. Speaking of age, hubby and I stopped into KFC for a quick lunch on Sunday after donating a car load of stuff and the cashier applied the senior discount with even mentioning it. Saved a dollar! Age (or grey hair)) does have some advantages! I hope you are in a brighter mood today!
Still working hard to finish out the semester and get as many kids as possible to finish Algebra 1A. What a battle I have been talking to myself all day as I leave voice mail after voice mail. Thurs and Friday I will go into grading mode and prep for semester 2 which begins on Monday. This will most-likely end up to be a work weekend. Hubby and I did go out and buy an inexpensive TV with a built in DVD player for the basement where my bike is. Then when I take my bike out of the basement I'll put it in the yoga room for playing exercise DVDs - working out in the basement is an impossibility - these crazy old cottages have lumpy floors and low ceilings. But I had to order the TV my hubby will pick it up for me tomorrow.
Well, good luck with the semester swich. I had no school due to trimester switch today, but I am tutoring tonight. I just had one student that wasn't here. My end of "semester" isn't for a while though. I hope you get lots done this weekend and get into a rhythm with those workouts.
A TV/DVD combo is perfect for workouts. I just gave away my recumbent bike and I miss it already. I had a tilt table that I put sudoku books on to work while I peddled. I must admit a TV would have been more fun! I wish you the best with all your grading and stuff for school.
Glad you bought yourself a new present! I'm sure having the TV in your yoga room will help with encouraging exercise!
I had a great visit with my mom yesterday and finally had a good night sleep. I felt so good when I got up this morning. I am working on household chores today but I am also doing it at much more relaxed pace than usual. I will get done what I get done. The kitchen is clean, laundry is going, upstairs is straightened and vacuumed and the cobwebs are gone. Time for a nice bowl of soup then tackle the main level of the house. With all the mud ( and the dog in and out) we have had the floors are absolutely terrible but I may just swifter dry then wet today. I am planning some yoga and a bike ride ( inside) today.
I get a lot of steps in just doing chores. And the bonus is that the house looks better! I'm glad you had a good sleep. I hope you start out this week well!
You sound very calmand organized. I hope everything turned out well.
I went to my yoga class today before work and it was absolutely wonderful. Work was crazy I am just finishing up. I have a few more minutes to wait and see if my student show up them I will shut down for the weekend. I have been trying to get a few things made to take to my mom this weekend, chili, squash soup, vegetable soup, minestrone, cornbread, scones and brownies. I have a few other things in the freezer and I'll take her some fresh spinach (you never can buy a small bag). I am looking forward to the visit.
Glad you got to yoga. Hope you have a nice time at your mom's this weekend. Sounds like you put together a lot of nice food items to take her.
Enjoy your visit and your freezer cooking-- sounds yummy. You stoked my interest. I had intended to skip working out today to give my body recoup time. Maybe I will do some light yoga before bed tonight. Thanks! Safe travels.
Those 2 pounds are gone! I have been extremely conscious of my calorie intake and output. I have also tried to focus on a high water intake and tons of veggies. Now of course I need to stay focused so I can continue to loose. I would be ok with maintaining for a while until the weather improves and I can get out side every day as long as I don't gain any. Things are still crazy busy.
Congrats on saying good bye to the 2#s. Whoo hoo!
Yeah for you! Keep up the focus!
Congrats on losing those 2 pounds, that is great!
Oh Pooh! Well I never got a break yesterday and today has been a marathon kind of work day without being to step away from the computer. I did not work this hard when I was in school cramming for exams, although my attitude was if I don't know it by not I am not going to learn it overnight. I have been working with student all day online and all evening at the library only to come home and have to enter zeros in the grade book for all assignments that were not completed for the entire semester. Of course towards the end I figured out a quicker way to do it. Grrrr….I made sushi last night and had 2 rolls for today. I had one for lunch and another for dinner. They were good by my sticky rice was not very sticky! But it was nice to have something a bit different for a change. The rest of the week will be just as crazy so I am headed to the freezer in the basement to find some soup for tomorrow lunch and dinner. My calories are low today so it won't be a problem that I didn't get in my exercise. Between work and the drizzling rain all day… excuses, excuses I could have gotten on the bike this morning.
This is a busy week for you and it sounds like you really didn't have the time; sometimes that excuse really is true! I'm glad you have some soup in the freezer for weeks like this!
Wow! I'm exhausted just reading your post - hope you find some time to take a break soon. (Maybe tomorrow won't be as stressful.)
I am impressed that you make sushi, my husband would love you. He loves that stuff. You definately sound like you had a busy day, hope you get a little time for yourself tomorrow. Have a good day.
