Learning to live in the present.
Setting goals can give you greater clarity and focus right now. Whenever you set a goal, always ask yourself, “How does setting this goal improve my present reality?” If a goal does not improve your present reality, then the goal is pointless, and you may as well dump it. But if the goal brings greater clarity, focus, and motivation to your life whenever you think about it, it’s a keeper. Many people set goals and then assume the path to reach the goal will require suffering and sacrifice – a recipe for failure. A better idea is to set a goal and pay attention to the effect it has on your present reality. Set goals that yield a positive effect on your life whenever you think about them, long before the final outcome is actually achieved. Treat goal-setting as a way to enhance your present reality, not as a way to control the future. Excerpts by this book by Steve Pavlina.
I have tried to set goals so much in the past. It seems like there are goals I can stick to and some that I seem to fail at. I wish there were a way for me to know which goals to set and when. I think that I could stick to all of my goals if I knew exactly which order to put them in.
Wow this is so true! I have been overweight (or thought I was) because actually even when I was underweight I though I was fat! most of my life since 12 yrs old and one of my main beliefs /thoughts was I'll do this when I'm thin, I'll go out with that guy..when I'm thin... I'll do ..... when I am thin. A constant way of living in the future and diets are also a way of us living in the future, ... I have eaten terrible tasting "diet" food because in the "future" it would be all worth it when I became thin! but you know what.... i just became fatter and fatter..... maybe if i had never had this mentality and enjoyed smaller portions of delicious healthy food in the moment then i would be a normal weight
being in the moment is so important! we put our lives on hold until we are thin.....
or we have a sacrificial attitude that causes us inner resentment whilst we are "on a diet"
we have to drop this attitude and be in the moment completely here & now re
