Gamer drops 30 pounds with his own 50 weight loss tips

35-year-old Chris Pirillo has made a name for himself by offering computer software and technical advice to “geeks,” as he calls them, or other tech savvy people throughout the country. He’s also made a name for himself by being the first thing that comes up when you google the name “Chris.”   But Pirillo also comes up first when you google the term “weight loss tips,” for which you will see the list he has drafted of 50 weight loss tips that, he says, helped him drop 30 pounds in three months.   One of these tips, which he says made a complete difference...

Detox

Do you detox? I don't really know that much about detox-ing, but know some people who have gone through the motions of creating the drink (it's some sort of strange concoction that you drink several times a day instead of eating meals for a week and apparently helps you lose weight/clean out your system). For those of you who have no clue what I'm talking about, I've found thisWeb site that explains a little more about it: http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/dietarytherapy/a/Detox_Diet_Plan.htm My question is, is this really healthy, and does it really work? Have any of you ever tried detoxing?

Support

I'm sitting here this cool Sunday evening, and instead of reading the local news which I am paid to be aware of at all times, instead I'm reading your blog entries. And as I was reading a few of your entries, I started thinking about support. Support plays such a huge role in weight loss. I think those who are not engaged in weight loss at the time don't realize how much support matters for our success. Through being members of WLB, we are all LUCKY enough to have various support tools, such as advice from experts who know what they're talking about...

Health Tip #1

It's not every day I follow a tip from Cosmo, but this one made a little bit of sense. According to the May 2009 issue (not exactly sure what page) you can amp up your workout by drinking a cup of coffee an hour before working out. If you drink it black, it's only 5 calories and if you drink it with a little bit of skim milk it's about 11. The caffeine will jump start your body and increase performance during your workout, Cosmo says. Personally, I don't think I would necessarily try the coffee with milk before a workout because the...

Giving up one habit for another

Alright. It is time to come clean. I haven't exactly done a good job at giving up bread, and in terms of my weight loss challenge, well, I haven't been giving that my all either. There, now that I have that off my chest, it's time to examine why I haven't been doing so well at these things I've pledged to do. Is it laziness? Is it fear (fear that I will never again get to taste the beauty that is a bagel)? Lack of motivation? I don't think it's any of those things. I just think that my mind was in it for a...

Skinny B

Has anyone read this book? I'm told it was quite popular when it first hit shelves a couple of years ago, and as with most things, I lagged behind the bandwagon. Anyways, B let me borrow it and I'm only a few chapters in and am a little frustrated at Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin's advice. Mainly, after reading only the first three chapters of telling us everything we CAN'T eat, I'm a little confused about what we CAN eat to achieve what the book labels it's ultimate goal, to become a "skinny bitch." Throughout the section I've so far finished, repeatedly the...

Diet Natural

Sunday is for three things in my house: laundry, "homework" (as in, the work I've been putting off during the week) and America's Next Top Model re-runs. But today is Monday-as I'm sure you all know. With yesterday's Sunday being devoted to Easter festivities, I unfortunately had to miss out on part three of my little Sunday equation. So, I'm catching up on ANTM this afternoon. The episode that's on right now, interestingly, is focused on plus-sized models and how it's better to be yourself and be healthy than to force yourself into a body that is common among that profession. Tyra Banks...

Bread Free Zone

This week, I ate the equivalence of 10 loaves of white bread. That may be an exaggeration, but not by much. Do you ever get that feeling, after you've eaten a lot of bread, or bready things, like your belly is an extension of your body that you just have to carry around all the time? Well, for a whole week, I have felt like that and I can't remember the last time I have felt this way-especially about bread. Bread is, by far, one of my favorite things, and I don't mean in its sliced, toast form. I mean bagels, crackers, rolls,...

How my award helped my diet

The following is a true story...I promise. This Saturday, I was sent to the New York Press Association (or NYPA) convention for work. The convention is held annually and brings together reporters, editors, advertisers, graphic illustrators and more from every weekly newspaper across the state. The event is actually two days long, but as to be fair, my employers decided we would switch off-two go on Friday, two go on Saturday. Lucky for me, my day was Saturday. The convention actually began at 9 a.m., but my male co-worker, who would never skip a meal, let alone a free meal, insisted we make it to...

To eat a meal at a bakery without dessert is one tough cookie

I mean really, am I wrong? I guess I fooled myself into thinking it would be easy to resist those black-and-whites and fudge fantasies when I went into the cafe section for a grilled chicken sandwich. But like I said before, I'm a sucker for the sweets. Although, I have found a few sweet treats that hit the spot, but are not filled with enough sugar to shoot my calorie intake through the roof. How about I tell you mine if you tell me yours, and together we can embrace our sweet teeth with foods that are a little less shameful? My faves...

The Blame Game

This time, B was not to blame. In my opinion, several times over, B has been the reason I didn't go to the gym, although that is a pretty crappy excuse, if you think about it. "I couldn't go to the gym because my friend didn't want to go with me." It was never like that before. I did a whole year of the gym every day all on my own. But since the two of us are in the challenge, I feel like there's no competition if B doesn't come with me. Anyways, last night was Spin, and we got ready...
