Why Your Weight Loss Resolution Won't Stick

Sunday i blogged about how making smaller resolutions can maybe help you make resolutions that are easier to stick to. Today, I am blogging about why those weight loss resolutions typically don't stick.   In "Food Addiction: Why Weight Loss Resolutions are Destined to Fail" the author explains the failing phenomenon by categorizing weight gain as an addiction, likening it to cigarettes, other drugs, and even sex.   Here is an excerpt from the article:   "Most doctors agree that addiction is a disease, not a moral failing, and people are becoming increasingly aware that addictions to drugs, alcohol, and even cigarettes require treatment for the...

50 New Ways to Burn 500 Calories (perfect post-holiday post)

If you're like me, you're looking for something like this to read after the aftermath of the cookies, pies, gravy, mashed potatoes, etc. begins to set in. Brought to you by MSN.com are 50 ways to burn 500 calories a day! Some of them are very practical (i.e. Get lots of sleep, go for a walk instead of watching television). Others (dance for two hours???) are a little less practical. The most interesting one, that I never really thought of, was this one: 5. Limit dinner guests. Eating with seven or more other guests can make you eat 96 percent more food, says Brian Wansink,...

Manageable Weight Loss Resolutions

Done with one holiday, now on to the next. New Years is known in the weight loss and exercise industries as being a huge money-making holiday-particularly after the holiday. Why? Because almost everyone resolves to lose weight in the coming year. Gym memberships skyrocket and weight loss products sells zoom. But the sad thing is, obviously, for many people, the motivation dwindles throughout the year, causing this uproar in January. This is an article about keeping your resolutions by making smaller, more manageable weight loss goals: http://www.pinejournal.com/event/article/id/18695/group/News/   What do YOU think? Is it easier to keep smaller resolutions or one great big goal?

'Twas the Dieters Night Before Christmas

I thought if I looked hard enough, I'd find the perfect parody to the classic poem to share with you dieters on the night before Christmas, and sure enough, I did! So here it is, folks. Wishing you a very warm and merry Christmas! Be good! The Night Before Christmas ‘Twas the night before Christmas and all round my hips Were Fannie May candies that sneaked past my lips. Fudge brownies were stored in the freezer with care In hopes that my thighs would forget they were there. While Mama in her girdle and I in chin straps Had just settled down to sugar-borne naps. When out in the...

One girl's weight loss story

Well, the Biggest Loser is over for the season, so it looks like I'll have to search for other inspiring weight loss stories to share with you guys. www.thatsfit.com/2009/12/21/megan-uses-her-weight-loss-success-to-coach-others/ Obviously, looking around on the site, you can find many inspiring stories. To me, the most inspiring are those of average Joes (and Joettes? well, female Joes). I find it most inspiring to me, an average gal, to know that people just like me who are not celebrities and do not have thousands of dollars to pay personal trainers can still achieve great feats. This woman, Megan, popped up on my browser today with...

Tips for Holiday Weight Loss Maintenance

The more tips the merrier for those wishing to maintain their weight loss during this holiday season, right? These tips came from businesswire.com. Here are a few, and click the link below for more: "Huge holiday meals and buffets can sabotage diets because it is difficult to resist the tempting array of treats. TIP: Eat a salad or fruit and drink at least 16 ounces of water before the event. We call this “pre-loading.” If you go to a holiday event hungry, you probably will eat more and make poorer food choices. Limit alcohol. You need to run 1.5 to 3 miles...

Study shows Wii not a help in family fitness

Now, this is just a shame. Especially since I just bought a Wii this past weekend. But unlike some people, I did not buy my Wii because I thought it would help me become more physically fit. I got it to play fun, interactive games that will make me move at least a little bit. Well, some people are not like me and are convinced the Wii can help them achieve fitness. But a new study suggests that it does not help with family fitness. Eight families were given Wiis and asked to use them for six months to participate in the...

Happy Hanukkah-A low-fat homemade donut recipe!

For all of us Jewish Hanukkah celebrators out there-Happy Hanukkah! If I lived at home still, I bet I would have had latkes for dinner and gotten some jelly donuts from Dunkin Donuts (naughty, I know, but it's always been a tradition). But, I don't still live at home, and while I'm trying to build my own traditions, I figured I'd trade in the greasy latkes for a low-fat, yet traditional, Hanukkah treat. Below is a recipe for some low-fat homemade donuts. I'm actually attempting to make them right now, so check back with my later on how they turn out! The...

Biggest Loser Finale!

SPOILER ALERT: Read to the end and you will know who won!!! Wow. The end to a very interesting season of the Biggest Loser. This is the second finale I’ve ever seen and I really liked how they brought them out in groups for their weigh-ins based on when they went home on the show. In the first group, I was most impressed with Julio. Antoine (sp?) looked great too, but watching the clips, I remember how lazy Julio was when he was on the show. Julio, in my opinion, looked like a completely different person. In the next set, I think we all...

Here are some I found: Hanukkah LOW-FAT POTATO LATKES Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 15 minutes Ingredients: 1 1/2 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet Potatoes 1 medium onion 1/4 cup flour 2 egg whites Freshly ground...

Biggest Loser PREDICTIONS/contest with PRIZE

I’m not going to lie.  Fell asleep during last night’s Biggest Loser. I know, I know, it apparently was a good one. But who can blame me when they air the two-hour show beginning at 9 p.m.? Anyways, since the marathon they ran-while technically labeled a “challenge”-isn’t really a challenge, I don’t really want to talk about last night’s episode. That and, like I said, I fell asleep. But I do want to start getting predictions out there because I always think a friendly wager (friendly, not costly) is a little bit fun. Tell ya what-I’ll create a prize for those who win....
