51 Ways To Burn That Fat

There's nothing I like more than a good list, particularly when the subject is going to help me feel better.  Here is an article from CNN which gives us 51 ways to help burn fat. As I read through the article I saw many things that I already knew, like working out in high-intensity intervals can help burn fat more effectively. But there are other tips I had never heard of, such as lifting weights before doing your cardio workout to help build muscle faster.  It's important to take note of the muscle building tips even if we are just looking...

Write it Down

Everyone's always saying you should write down what you eat and that it will help you, in some way, shape or form, lose weight. But new evidence suggests this could actually be true. The National Weight Control Registry, an ongoing research project, writing down what you eat really does make you tend to eat healthier because as odd as it may sound, you end up feeling accountable to that thing you are writing on, whatever it may be. Aside from the accountability though, keeping track of what you eat just generally overall shows you perhaps where you have eaten something in...

Kicking Your Cravings

Something I've been dealing with a lot lately is cravings. When it comes to meal times, I'm eating healthy and I'm exercising the way I should, but in between the meals and the exercise, I'm finding myself craving terribly unhealthy things. For instance yesterday, I found myself DYING for a cheeseburger. I have no idea why-I always say I think I could probably happily live as a vegetarian if not for chicken fingers. But I just really, really wanted ketchup and pickles and meat. I knew I was going to be having a piece of pizza for dinner, which in my...

Resistance is Good

I'm involved in a mini-weight loss competition with a co-worker that began last week. We each run local news Web sites for different towns, and until April 15, we are competing to see who can lose the most weight in one month. Already from the start there are factors working in his favor, such as him being a man and me being a woman. It's always been easier for men to lose weight, and it certainly is not fair! Other than that, he's already down one pound and I'm down zero finishing off the first week of our competition. For our sites,...

Weight Loss Surgery Can Affect Alcohol Tolerance

We all know alcohol doesn't make us skinnier. And for us attempting to lose weight, it can actually be one of our biggest enemies. But new information suggests that alcohol can have another strange effect in relation to weight loss. According to an article posted today by Reuters, individuals who consume alcohol after having a weight loss surgery are more likely to feel the effects of alcohol sooner than they previously had. For example, a person who has had weight loss surgery may feel drunk after one glass of wine, whereas before, they may have only felt the effects after...

Low fat Corned Beef and Cabbage Recipe

In honor of St. Patrick's Day this week, I'm bringing you another low-fat recipe. If anyone knows how Corned Beef & Cabbage became the signature St. Patty's food, I'd definitely be interested to know. It can stink up your whole house-but hey, it's festive right? And done the right way, it can even fit into your Weight Watchers diet (only 7 points per serving!). Here's the recipe from What's That Smell: http://accidentalmommies.com/lowfat-corned-beef-and-cabbage-recipe/ Luckily (get it, lucky, leprechaun), St. Patrick's Day is not one of those holidays where food is not really the main focus. On the other hand, drinking alcohol, especially beer,...

How Do You Talk to Your Loved Ones About Weight Loss

When you're losing weight, being able to find a good support system can be key to your success. It's a good thing for us buddies to have each other to rely on to satisfy this for us. But some of us seek support from home as well. Those of us who have significant others or family members who encourage us to eat healthy, exercise and stay motivated. But what if the script was flipped and we had a family member who needed to lose weight, but just couldn't see it on their own yet? This can be a very tricky situation, and one...

Pregnancy Pee Diet Picking Up Momentum

CNN continued its reporting today on the controversial diet that includes taking supplements or injections of a pregnant woman's urine. I blogged about this before, and remember getting quite the feedback, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to bring it back one more time. Essentially, in this, ummm, interesting diet, those participating are limited to 500 calories a day and daily treatments. The urine of the pregnant woman is said to contain certain hormones that, get ready for this, apparently help people shed up to two pounds a day. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the thought of injecting, or,...

Is Dr Oz Wrong About Weight Loss

A new book has come out with a new opinion by its author that Dr. Oz is oftentimes wrong in his advice about weight loss and exercise. For anyone unfamiliar with Dr. Oz, he is a "doctor" who gives general medical advice and tips on national television during his program that runs during the day. He became popular, and got his own show, after appearing on Oprah several times and not holding back about his opinions on how people should treat their bodies in order to live a health life (he has also been known to bring viles of poo on...

Kirstie Alley to be On Dancing With the Stars

Finally, Kirstie Alley has made it to Dancing With the Stars-and she's hoping to lose a lot of weight doing it. Kirstie has said that she's hoping to lose about 30 lbs. through the competition. Kristie is 60 years old and she will be partnered up with Maks. I know a couple former Biggest Loser contestants were also vying for a spot on DWTS, probably for another shot at being forced to lose some weight (or perhaps to be on television again). Seeing the contestants practice before their numbers does make it seem as though they go through quite a vigorous workout...

Catching Up On The Biggest Loser

It's been a while since I've done a review on an episode of the Biggest Loser, and a while since I've been able to watch an episode all together, actually. While I'm quite addicted to the show, I made the decision that sitting on the couch to watch it every week was actually working against my own pledge to be on the couch less as part of my weight loss. I did catch about 3/4 of tonight's episode though, and was impressed with what I saw. For anyone who hasn't seen the episode yet, you may not want to keep reading. And...
