Chakras

I believe that this whole weight loss journey is about more than calories in and calories out.  I think it’s about finding that balance between our fitness and nutritional needs.  I believe that it’s about consistency and being mentally in that zone.  Chakra’s embodies that idea.  It’s a marriage of the physical and spiritual from a source of energy.  Once we find that balance things just fall into place.   A chakra is a major energy center in your body.  By learning to open and explore these energy centers or chakras you can improve yourself.  We have seven chakras and they...

My Go-To Idea's

I can stick to my food plan with no problem as long as I'm not stressed and I have all the time in the world.  I'm sure you guys have days like that all the time - NOT!  Many evenings are chaotic with last minute guests who have specific diet needs.   In an ideal world all I'd have to do is walk into the kitchen and confer with the chef.  Since fantasy land hasn't arrived in my domain as of yet, let's deal with reality. Salad is a major go-to idea in my house.  I love making a salad.  Nearly...

Pink Slime Yum-Yum

Have you heard of pink slime?  Wherever you look there is someone's opinion or an article about it.  I have a few questions about it.  Did you know it was in our ground beef?  I didn't know about it.  Do you know why we know about it?  The U.S Federal Government planned to buy ground beef with pink slime in it for our public school's lunch program.  You know the school's I mean, the ones that have removed soda, only allows baked potato chips and insists that each child has vegetables on their plates.   Imagine the outrage that occurred when...

Tough Love

We all have different reasons for wanting to lose weight.  For some of us it's health for others it's vanity or a combination of both.  Either way for the most part it's personal.  The deep down reason is usually something you would prefer not to broadcast.  For most of us we've lived with the failure of not being able to achieve our goal.  Now is the time to turn it around. We can actually convince ourselves that we really don't look so bad.  How many times have you stood in front of the mirror and told yourself that if you stand...

Healthy Eating on a Budget

I went grocery shopping the other day and I was just amazed at the cost of my two grocery bags.  My husband and I looked at each with resigned expressions.  It doesn't seem like things are going to get better any time soon.   The plan is to make the most of our grocery budget with foods that are good for our health, easy on the wallet and can be versatile.   Oats Barley Brown rice Eggs Apples Bananas Spinach Beans Frozen vegetables Yogurt Canned Tuna Fish High nutrition foods that are easy on the budget.  I do love buying fresh vegetables but I usually stick with whats in season.  Those are more...

To Coffee or Not To Coffee

Most of us roll out of bed with one goal in mind, coffee!  You may skip on the sugar or on the cream but that dark fragrant brew is important to kick start your day.   Is that a good thing or a bad thing? According to Harvard Health Publications from Harvard Medical School there seem to be some huge benefits.  There were a few studies that have shown lower rates of colon, breast and rectal cancers amongst coffee drinkers.  Heavy coffee drinkers may be half as likely to get type 2 diabetes as compared to light or non-coffee drinkers.  Coffee seems...

Talking Abs

I had always heard that your body needs a 24 hour recovery period from working out.  The exception to the rule was your abs, which you could work on every day.  When you work out you break down muscle tissue. When you stop exercising your body begins to rebuild the muscle issue with more strength than before.  This is why I didn’t understand how you would be able to work out your abs every day.  Then I came across this exact question addressed to Jillian Michaels.  Her answer made sense to me.  Jillian replied as follows, "There are a bunch...

Calorie Counting

There are so many food plans out there it can easily overwhelm you.  Calorie counting is one of the easiest plans I know.  You can eat whatever you want all you have to do is figure out how many calories were in your food choices.  It’s a great place to start your road to a slimmer and fitter you.  It's the basics and helps develop good habits.  I am not saying that there aren’t other plans that will work just as well I’m just saying this is a great place to start.  I personally believe that most of the plans...

Sodium

Sodium or as most of us refer to it as Salt is something that we really should educate ourselves about.  We know that most diets suggest you lose the salt but somehow you know that you need it.  You also know on a fundamental level you like it. We are hardwired to want salt.  Sweet, sour, bitter and salty are one of the four basic tastes.  It is so important to our survival that we have a specific sensor on our tongues to detect salt.  Thousands of...
