Eating Out

I don't know about you but I really enjoy going out to eat.  I just found it a bit of a problem to always get what I want, how I want it.  If your anything like me the idea of drawing attention to yourself while your watching every gram is a little like having a spotlight on the heavy girl in the booth.  I would rather avoid it.   Then one day I had the fortune of having an awesome waitress.  My sons were younger and really wanted to go to Steak and Shake.  At the time there wasn't a heck...

Morning Routine

I’m not a routine person.  I have always liked playing things by ear.  Yet, I have found that by getting a flexible routine in place it makes my entire day go smoother.  Some of you may have noticed my struggles with a morning routine over the last few months.  This is what I’ve come up with and I thought I’d share. 1.  Get to bed at a reasonable time.  Lay out workout clothes. I found this to be the most important part of my morning routine.  If I don't get a good night’s sleep then I struggle to not go back to...

Qigong

I went to my second Qigong (pronounced chee gung) class this week and was once again surprised at the results from those deliberately slow movements.  Qigong embodies the concept of mind and body.  Your body moves with gentle but deliberate purpose and your mind follows along with imagery.  The class was held in a small room with one wall covered in mirrors.  The fan moved lazily around creating a soft breeze.  I am usually not a fan of mirrors but being able to see my reflection so that I could correct my form was great.  I thought the instructor was...

When You Need Motivation

Do you ever feel weighed down by whatever nonsense is going on in your life that you have no control over and just have to deal with anyway?  Then when you have metaphorically risen to your knees something comes along to say, not so fast toots and knocks you down again.  By the time circumstance, situations and other people are done you’re just over it all.   That is the moment when it just seems overwhelming to do one more work out.  You no longer care if you’re not supposed to eat that slice of cake. What are you supposed to...

Green Coffee Bean Extract and Weight Loss

What would you say if I told you there is a supplement that was all natural, will help you have more energy, feel fuller faster and overall feel less hungry?  You would say it’s too good to be true.  I'm talking about Pure, Green Coffee Bean Extract.  Dr. Oz had interviewed Dr. Lindsey Green on his show discussing the merits of green coffee extract and he seemed very pleased with the results.  A study presented earlier this year offers evidence that it can help you lose weight.  Sixteen overweight or obese people in their 20's took green coffee bean extract...

Email Dietary Information

I recall hearing that you should always eat fruit on an empty stomach.   I remember hearing it from several people that Dr. Oz had explained if you eat fruit after having eaten something else, the fruit would begin to ferment and rot in your stomach.  It seemed to make sense.  Then the other day I received an email reiterating just what I said.  It had some additional information about drinking cold water after a meal.  They said if you do that the fat from your food would congeal and cause cancer.  I don’t know why but I suddenly became...

Eating Healthy on a Budget pt 2

Eating healthy on a budget is a real concern for all of us just not a blog title.  Grocery store prices are steadily on the rise while we live in a world where obesity is a real problem.  In my first Eating Healthy on a Budget blog we talked about versatile foods.  This time I want to talk about time saving ideas.  Purchasing a bag of dried beans may be reasonably priced but there is quite a lot of time involved in preparing that meal.  In my search of time saving, low calorie, healthy recipes I came across a site...

Why Eat Yogurt

I didn't grow up a yogurt eater.  When my son's pediatrician suggested I give him some vanilla yogurt while he was taking antibiotics we would share the container, and so my enjoyment of yogurt began.  I thought it was pretty good.   Then one of the yogurt brands started airing commercials showing centenarians from various cultures.  They were in good health and were inspiring.  What did they have in common?  Yogurt.  That renewed my waning interest.  I learned that all yogurts were not equal.  The ones that contained live and active cultures were the ones that would offer the benefits of...
